The Nightjar, Old Street

A little bit of a different post tonight, but I thought it might be nice to give a recommendation of somewhere my friend Lara and I went to last night. The Night Jar on Old Street in Shoreditch is so hidden away we needed a local to show us the entrance, but so well loved we had to ring ahead just to book a table for drinks on a Wednesday night.

The interior is beautiful, with a 1920s 'speak easy' theme. Light bulbs hung from the ceiling, wallpaper was Art Deco, and wall displays had a very oriental theme. After perusing the pages and pages of cocktails, I decided on a 'Beyond the Sea' and I believe Lara chose a Tango (can't quite remember the full name!) Service was excellent, and when the drinks arrived, they were amazing! Mine was served in a shell, with foam and seaweed - sounds awful, tastes amazing, whilst Lara's was adorned with petals and chocolate covered berries!

I would definitely recommend this little corner of the past for those looking for something a bit different or special. I wouldn't recommend, however, having more than one drink if you haven't eaten first, as just the one had us feeling a bit wobbly! Also, be careful of extra charges - I believe we were charged for the popcorn snacks they left on our table, and this with service charge then tip on top ended up costing a further ten pounds. Definitely not somewhere to go on a budget, but for the occasional treat with a friend it's certainly worth it for the experience.
