Bank Destination Unknown Competition: Festival Fashion Dos and Don'ts

Bank Fashion are currently running a competition for bloggers to share their festival experiences for the chance to win yourself a summer full of festival fun, and here is my attempt! To enter for yourself, click here.

Living on the Isle of Wight, I am no stranger to Festivals – I have been attending both the Isle of Wight Festival and Bestival since I was only thirteen. One of my favourite things about the Festivals aside from the music and atmosphere is checking out what everyone else is wearing. I thought it might be fun to share a few Dos & Don’ts I have learnt about Festival fashion so that you guys can look great (and avoid some of the mistakes I have made!)

DO – Wear Wellies
The weather may be forecasted for constant sunshine, and wellies may be sweaty and not the most comfy shoes ever, but you would be surprised how quickly an unexpected five minute shower can turn a grassy green field into a muddy sludge fest with so many people walking about. Any other shoes are unlikely to survive the weekend!

DON’T – Wear Sandals
Along the same wavelength as the first rule. Yes, the celebs make them look like such a fantastic idea at Coachella, but this isn’t California, and wet mud between your toes is very unpleasant. What’s more, you will have your toes trodden on in the crowd more times than you can count – not worth the risk!

DO – Bring a Plastic Disposable Mac – Not terribly on trend, but essential.

DON’T - Wear Skirts
Yet another rule learned the hard way! I have worn dresses and skirts to festivals before, but unless you wear shorts underneath them, you will spend the majority of the time worrying about jumping about too much or whether you’re sitting correctly. You will feel much more comfortable in shorts, and you can mix and match with different tops to get more wear out of them over festival season.

DO – Take Back Packs / Bumbags
Perhaps not the most glamorous festival accessories, but these two will get you through any festival. Make sure you have a good zip so nothing can fall out or be stolen in the crowd. I once spotted Pixie Geldof wearing a backpack at the Isle of Wight Festival, though hers was Louis Vuitton so perhaps not as practical!

DON’T - Wear Playsuits or Jumpsuits
Seems like a good idea, until you wind up wrestling on tip toes to get it off in the portaloos in the dark. Need I say more?

The best thing about festival fashion is it’s all about being creative and having fun with what you wear. Put crystals around your eyes, wear wacky prints, and don some crazy sunglasses.

I thought I'd add in a little wish list so you can see what items I am loving! I hope this post has helped!
