The Summer Occasionwear Edit: Day 1

So, The Summer Occasionwear Edit...I suppose the main source of inspiration behind this series of posts is the sheer amount of friends and family I have with exciting events coming up which they talk about in terror. Why? Because they don't have the foggiest what they are going to wear. We all have our own personal style and aren't afraid to put together outfits in day to day life, but for some reason the prospect of having to 'dress up' (particularly for a girl born and bread on the Isle of Wight) seems alien and down right scary. Even in winter, the whole thing is a lot easier - if in doubt pull out that trusty LBD and style with something sparkly and you're pretty much set.

It is through this thought process I realised that this right here is my platform to help others with some occasionwear ideas and frankly to challenge myself to see what I could come up with.

But today is a Monday, so I thought I'd ease us all in fairly gently - the event is a garden party, or perhaps a relaxed wedding, a friend's birthday meal or similar. Today's challenge is colour. I have chosen this gorgeous tomato red/orange dress from Forever21 and paired it with my trusty electric blue kimono. The colours really set each other off without looking garish, and although print and colour combined can be a daunting prospect, the simple lines, lack of fussy jewellery and natural makeup mean this outfit stands out without looking eccentric. Even better? All this clothing adapts perfectly for daily wear too. Sorted.
