Dress Normal

A lot of what we all see on the blogosphere in the personal style department is more dressy or more daring or more bold than we see in every day life. Whilst there's nothing wrong with this, and I love pushing myself to wear things on a daily basis that are more exciting than I did before I blogged, there's something to be said for having the basics in our wardrobes to lay the foundations for an outfit. Having items as simple as the perfect fitting pair of jeans or even a really flattering jersey t shirt can make all the difference to the way an outfit comes together, and this is something I have always found very important.

Gap's new campaign to 'Dress Normal' is, to me, the embodiment of this. It's about having those items of clothing in your wardrobe that fit you and suit you and make you feel amazing, dressed up or down. And in today's outfit post, I am all about the dressing down, so where better to show you than in my bedroom? (Excuse the look of it right now, it's undergoing some changes!)

I don't think I fully realised how much my wardrobe was missing a really well fitting pair of skinny jeans until I bought them, and missed them every time they were in the wash. Those jeans for me are the Gap Forever Stretch Legging jeans in this gorgeous grey colour, which is perfect for this time of year, a bit different from black, but just as easy to dress. I wear mine slightly rolled up because I personally think it looks more flattering on my legs and I like showing a cheeky bit of ankle (oi oi). I have teamed these with a mens Oxford shirt which is really soft and that bit thicker than most shirts, making for less ironing and more structure, which I feel suits me more than traditional shirting fabric. Finished off with a dash of dusty pink - a colour that looks gorgeous next to grey - in the form of these slip on trainers shoes, this outfit screams ease and comfort but still looks on trend.
